Breast reconstruction is available to every woman having a mastectomy or lumpectomy, although not every woman will be a good candidate for reconstruction. Other serious medical conditions, smoking history or weight could increase the risk of reconstructive surgery. This is something to discuss with your cancer care team.

 

Women who are good candidates can usually choose the timing and type of their reconstruction, although not all options may be available or suitable for all women.

The plastic surgeon who will be performing your reconstruction will review your options with you then, together, you will decide what’s right for you.
